Unlike the majority of card games - when you play blackjack, you play only against the dealer. As a result the strategy of play with blackjack is very different to the majority of other card games where the other players on the table can influence the stakes.

Blackjack Strategy

The basics of blackjack strategy are that you want to have a hand value that is closer to 21 than the dealer without going over 21.

The rules of play for the dealer are strictly dictated, leaving the dealer with option to change strategy or influence the order of the cards during the game. As a result, while you are leaning to play you can show the dealer your hand and discuss strategy and game play during each hand of blackjack.

When playing blackjack there are a number of different ways to play dependent upon the casino. The majority of casinos in Europe give the dealer only one card face up until all the players have finished their hands during each game of blackjack. The dealer then deals his second card, and finishes his hand. This is called the European No Hole Card rule.

This method of play can change a player's strategy if, and only if, the dealer collects all player bets in the event of a dealer blackjack. Some casinos that deal only one card at first to the dealer will refund any double-down or split bets if the dealer turns out to have a blackjack. This type of no hole card rule does not have any effect on the player's optimal strategy, and should not be described as European No Hole Card rules.
